It's Flooding time Again

12/01/08

By Brian Hill

I'm sure no one is as anxious as I for this time of year.  It is like waiting for Christmas morning everyday... As I see the lakes freezing, feel the ice in the air, but those pesky 40 and sunny days won't give in...  Well they've had their chance, for awhile at least...  The weather forecast has changed and Tuesday isn't looking as warm and sunny as predicted, so it is time to flood!

We're going to take is easy as the frost is barely in the ground and when we add 40 degree water it will melt it out and the water will just soak in...  Slow and sure is the way to make ice in this type of weather, becoming over zealous can cost us a week or two in getting skatable ice.

As in the last few years (and explained at the mite parent meeting) the initial floods will be scheduled adhoc through me.  Once a good base is down I'll be scheduling team floods and your team managers will be coordinating volunteers.

So if you willing to come make ice, give me a call and we'll get you assigned a night...
